Right now it’s 2:00 a.m. as I am typing this blog and I’m starting to get hungry. If you have done this many times before like I have then you know the only place to go to quench your hunger for a “fourth meal” is Taco Bell.
The Taco Bell restaurant chain has made its mark as the place to be for low prices and thinking “outside the bun” but should we be more worried about what’s inside the bun? Taco Bell has been under a lot of heat lately after being accused of only using 36% beef in their beef products. According to the USDA “ground beef can have seasonings, but no water, phosphates, extenders, or binders added.” From the ingredients list shown on the Taco Bell web page you can see that the meat from Taco Bell does not meet the minimum requirements set by the USDA. The purpose of the lawsuit, “We are asking that they stop saying that they are selling beef” as stated by the lawyers presenting the charge. This concerns me a lot to know that Taco Bell isn’t even meeting the minimum requirements for their meat, and who knows what other corners they may be cutting that we have not discovered yet. As a regular fast food customer I hope many lawsuits like this one follow if restaurants continue to cut corners just to make more profit. As this lawsuit progresses I will continue to inform you of the updated decisions made regarding Taco Bell.

Dear Shane,
ReplyDeleteYou caught me at the Taco Bell picture. Taco Bell is a fantastic establishment that makes me and my tummy happy frequently! I always have that "fourth meal", usually late on a Friday night, if you know what I mean!
"The Taco Bell restaurant chain has made its mark as the place to be for low prices and thinking “outside the bun” but should we be more worried about what’s inside the bun?" Reading this kind of made me a little worried for what you had to say next! I never really think about what is inside of the Taco Bell I consume.
"As a regular fast food customer I hope many lawsuits like this one follow if restaurants continue to cut corners just to make more profit." I am also a regular fast food consumer, and sure hope that this isn't the case for all fast food places!
Thank you for writing this blog about Taco Bell and their meat issues! It was pretty enlightening and eye opening for me. Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Goldfinch
Dear Corporations in Every Day Life,
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw the Taco Bell picture, I had to know what this blog was about! I love Taco Bell, from late night homework breaks to a cheap dinner, it's always been the place to go.
"Taco Bell has been under a lot of heat lately after being accused of only using 36% beef in their beef products." I've heard this on the news lately, and I've even wrote a blog myself about this! But as a frequent Taco Bell consumer, this is kind of shocking and scary. What else are they putting in their meat is what really makes me wonder. Maybe THAT'S why Taco Bell is so cheap...
"As a regular fast food customer I hope many lawsuits like this one follow if restaurants continue to cut corners just to make more profit." I feel the same way and could not agree more. I wish they could just have actual good food. But I guess with good food comes a high price.
I really liked this blog especially since it relates to me as a frequent Taco Beller. I will continue to read your blogs out of curiosity about what you're going to write about next!

Dear Shane,
ReplyDeleteI am both pleased and dismayed to read what you have written. I am pleased at the fact that I finally know the truth about Taco Bell; however, I am mad to know that somewhere I always eat does not even meet minimum requirements of the USDA.
“According to the USDA “ground beef can have seasonings, but no water, phosphates, extenders, or binders added.” From the ingredients list shown on the Taco Bell web page you can see that the meat from Taco Bell does not meet the minimum requirements set by the USDA.” This absolutely shocked me. I do not understand how it can be so hard to meet these simple requirements. It is sad to know that what I have been eating is most likely not even close to what I think it is.
“The purpose of the lawsuit, “We are asking that they stop saying that they are selling beef” as stated by the lawyers presenting the charge.” I completely agree with the lawyers in this case. I think that Taco Bell should stop claiming that they are selling beef. They should just tell the people what they are really eating.
I am glad that you shared this blog with me and opened my eyes to what I am eating. I know that most people need to know about this and I am glad to know that you have let this happen. I will continue to read your shocking blogs.
Sincerely,
Bluebird
Dear Shane,
ReplyDeleteThis really hit home, because like you, I have been up extremely late and started to get hungry. Of course, my friends and I made a trip to Taco Bell.
The fact that Taco Bell isn't even technically selling beef is disturbing. It really makes you wonder what you're eating. I think everyone should really considered what is being served to them.
I would have to agree with the lawyers on this one. If Taco Bell isn't going to meet the minimum requirements, then they shouldn't tell people that they are serving beef.
Thank you for writing this. People really should know what they are eating.
